In wet and blustery conditions Busselton's two Youth League teams, Busselton City and Busselton Redbacks, battled it out on Saturday. Top of the table City started strong, playing football that was really pleasing to the eye. City’s John Nguyen continued his recent impressive form as he was at the center of every incisive City attack. Nguyen set up Taj MacKenzie for City's first goal after the two players exchanged passes. A dominant first half display saw City score again through prolific striker Patrick Sheehan, then Under-15s Harry Cross, playing up in Youth League for the first time scored with his very first kick. Nguyen then scored the goal of the game with an exquisite curled effort from 25 yards out- made even more impressive given the strong and swirling wind. Nguyen added a second for himself too.
Redbacks regrouped in the second half and played some good football themselves. Some teams have chosen to sit back and defend against City however credit must go to the Redbacks who tested the City defence on a number of occasions in the second half. Sheehan scored his second from the penalty spot early in the second term before Joshua Snow was rewarded for his continued high work rate and persistence with a goal for the Redbacks. Justin McClurg added a late goal for City.
Young Under 15s players Jack Anderson and Harry Cross both impressed playing in the higher age group. Redback's Josh Snow, Jesse Brockman and Lochie Nutarelli-Hall played excellent games. Kobie Chromow again showed his class in defence for City while John Nguyen showed his class with an impressive display. City's win mean they remain on top of the league.
