A beautiful day welcomed Busselton City FC's two Youth league teams (Redbacks and City) on Saturday for a Cup Quarter Final clash. The Redbacks have shown that they are not afraid to take the game to City and indeed that is exactly what they did at the start of the game. Through the industry of Josh Snow the Redbacks dominated the early midfield encounters with the ever willing Carson Gardiner providing a great focal point. Snow is clearly benefiting from training with BCFC seniors and has become one of the best midfielders in the competition even though he is the youngest midfielder in the competition.
It was Snow who opened the scoring for the Redbacks with a superb free kick from 25 yards out into the top corner of the goal. The goal spurred City into action and after a poor start they started to get some attacks going often involving Taj Mackenzie on the right wing who has been in outstanding form in recent weeks. City were soon level when Liam Hughes followed up a shot that had been well saved. Further City pressure saw them score again but credit to the Redbacks at half time they were still in the game and fighting hard.
The second half saw some better quality football with John Nguyen and Justin McClurg both showing why they are two of the top talents in the region with both getting on the scoresheet. The spirit of the Redback players was outstanding, they continued to fight until the end. Their keeper Mark James pulled off some great saves while Snow and Gardiner continued to impress.
At the final whistle it is City who go through to the Semi-Final but the game showed the depth of talent among Busselton City FC.
