Saturday saw the commencement of the LNJSA Football season, with a fantastic Gala Day for the new 5 and 6 year olds at Bovell Playing Fields. This saw our newest members given a great introduction to our wonderful sport, in what will hopefully be many years of footballing fun!
Our match of the day featured one of our Youth League Boys teams, "BSN City".
Youth League team BSN City, played Geographe Bay in the first game of the season. In a sign of what was to come, Busselton created a great chance within the first few seconds of the game only for the shot to go wide. This became a theme of the match, as Busselton created chance after chance but could not find the net. The post and crossbar were both hit, while all afternoon Geo keeper Aidan Rice produced some outstanding saves. Busselton's lack of finishing came back to hurt them, when on a rare forage forward, Geo scored from a corner giving the Seasiders a 1-0 lead. Busselton continued to press and finally scored with a header from Justin McClurg.
The second half was more of the same with Geo camped inside their half and Busselton creating numerous chances. Busselton took the lead from a Patrick Sheehan penalty. Sheehan soon scored again as Busselton's pressure finally got it rewards. Chances continued to come for Busselton but they only scored one more, as Taj Mackenzie's late goal gave a final scoreline of 4-1 to Busselton. Best on ground included Liam Hughes and John Nguyen for Busselton and Aidan Rice for Geographe.
