Four players from the Busselton City club have been selected in the South West Soccer Association All Star teams for the 2019 season. The selection of CMI Busselton midfielder Mathis Wieler caps of a memorable season for the German born player who rejoined the club this season. Wieler’s impressive first touch, high work rate and goal scoring ability were all key factors in his selection. Three players from the Triple M Busselton City Ladies side - Keely Milner, Ariana Dawson and Ashleigh Charlton were also rewarded for their consistent performances. Milner is one of more astute defenders in the competition whilst striker Dawson has been a constant danger to opposition defences since returning from playing in the USA. Charlton is a promising goalkeeper whose positional play and distribution have shown pleasing development throughout the season.
The SWSA are now in the midst of working with local State League club South West Phoenix & Great Southern Soccer Association to organise fixtures to see these teams in action.
In the only game played on the weekend, Busselton City Ladies team were made to work hard in a scrappy 1-0 win over Dunsborough. In the first half Busselton’s best chance came after hard working striker Ariana Dawson out-paced her opponents cut the ball back to the top of the box to find midfielder Therese Charlton in space but the striking shot was well saved. When Dunsborough did get possession Busselton defender Eliza Sheehan was quick to clear any threats by playing the ball cleverly from the back. Mid way through the second some good lead up work by Sheehan resulted striker Nicole Rogue scoring with powerful shot low that skimmed passed the opposition keeper and into the net. Busselton were unable to grab another goal despite Dawson going close. Busselton have two more league games to play and they can claim the runners up spot if they defeat Australind on Sunday in an away fixture.
