CMI Busselton City continued its recent run of impressive form when it recorded a deserved 4-1 win over Bunbury United on Saturday night. Busselton started confidently and scored first after 14 minutes when Kobe Mayer’s persistence was rewarded. However it was United who scored next when a speculative cross ended up in the back of the Busselton net. In the second spell it was one-way traffic with midfielders Mathis Wieler and Will Jackson both notching goals. The final goal from defender Dan Dewaal was indeed memorable – a 35 metre swerving shot that gave the United keeper no chance of saving.
Busselton City Reserve side looked in control throughout their match before ending up with a 2-0 win over Bunbury United. After a series of wasted scoring opportunities it was striker Luke Tompsett who gave his side the lead midway through the first spell. At times United came back into the game in the second half but they were met by some hard-nosed defending by Isaac Sheehan and Jared Piekarek. In the final minutes winger Patrick Tarrant sealed the win with a well-placed shot from wide out on the right.
Triple M Busselton City ladies team consolidated their second place on the ladder with a 4-3 win over Australind. City led 3-0 at half time with goals to Emily Killick, Keeley Milner and Theese Charlton. But the initial part of second spell belonged to Australind and they scored twice before Busselton’s Allyson Armstrong finished from a corner kick. The tackling and distribution skills of promising central defender Eliza Sheehan saved the day for her side on more than one occasion.
Woody Nook Busselton City Masters suffered a 1-0 loss in a hard fought game against Football Margaret River. Both sides had limited scoring chances with Busselton having a disallowed goal just before half time. Goalkeeper Simon Bates made a number of good saves whilst the defensive trio of Andy Bee, Glenn Armstrong and Peter Thompson were whole hearted and certainly amongst the best for the local side.
This Sunday Busselton City host Hay Park United with the ladies game commencing at 11am.
