Cup tie football was at its finest on Sunday with three Busselton City sides seeking spots in the South West Cup finals to be played next month. Within the first minute of their clash with Dynamos, CMI Busselton City found themselves a goal down. However the local side grew into the game and it was no surprise when some intelligent short passing allowed Busselton’s Mathis Wieler to score from 20 metres. Dynamos enjoyed a spell of pressure after the interval but were generally nullified by the cagey defending of Busselton stalwarts Andy Cowley & Rob Seia. On the 70th minute mark Dynamos grabbed their second when they scored from close range following a corner kick. With keeper Jesse Gunnis once again impressing Busselton were desperately unlucky in the final stanza with Beau Haynes and Kobe Mayers both denied by some desperate Dynamos defending.
Triple M Busselton City Ladies had the unenviable task of taking on Premier League Champions Hay Park in their semi-final clash. Busselton cleverly used both Keeley Milner and Emily Killick to nullify Hay Park’s dangerous duo Savannah Olsthoorn and Hayley Castrilli. Against the run of play Olsthoorn managed to find space in the penalty area and put the ball low to the far left corner past keeper Stacey Rouse. The second spell was end to end football with Sami Ryan and Milner keeping their opponents at bay. With Busselton giving everything for the next goal they came agonizingly close through a couple of Ariana Dawson efforts. However in the end the local side were unable to unlock some no nonsense Hay Park defending which hung on to a 1-0 win.
A heart-breaking goal in the final minute proved to be the difference in the Woody Nook Masters 3-2 semi-final loss Geographe. Busselton skipped to an early lead courtesy of goals to Paul Satterthwaite and the consistent Dave Wright. However just on half time Geographe replied and then equalised with twenty minutes remaining. With Anthony Mills and Juan Propato leading the charge Busselton had chances to wrap the game up before conceding a goal in the 90th minute.
