Match Report - Seniors 26th May 2019

Two deflections, two goals and two 1-0 losses was the story of CMI Busselton City’s clash with Dunsborough Town last Sunday.

In the Men’s Premier League match both sides dominated possession for spells of the game but were unable to turn that superiority into goals. Busselton looked particularly dangerous going forward through the pace of their teenage quartet of Beau Haynes, Will Jackson, Jarod Piekarek and Pat Sheehan. The breakthrough came after 82 minutes when a deflected shot from Dunsborough’s Kaden Heathcote wrong footed Busselton keeper Conor Poleykett. In the final minute Busselton’s Martin Ryan almost grabbed an equaliser from close range.

Busselton reserve side continued to impress despite going down 1-0 to league leaders, Dunsborough in a hard fought encounter. Although the game was scrappy at times Busselton’s defence led by Isaac Sheehan and Andy Cowley were able to quickly nullify any opposition attacks. Busselton’s Callum Bull and Justin McClurg had good games in the midfield whilst Koby Mayers worked diligently up front throughout the ninety minutes. But with only four minutes remaining Dunsborough scored after a free kick ricocheted of the defensive wall eluding Busselton keeper Jesse Gunnis.

Triple M Busselton City Ladies started with a fine first half performance away at Forrest Park on Sunday only to see Dynamos claw back a gutsy 5-3 win. Busselton scored first on the 15 minute mark when midfielder Emily Killick sent in a curling corner kick before Allyson Armstrong doubled the lead and Dynamos converted the first of three penalty kicks awarded to them during the match. Keeley Milner, a welcomed addition to the backline, played in a beautiful cross for Therese Charlton to produce a striking goal from 20 metres. However from then on in Dynamos took full advantage of the situation to score four unanswered goals. For the local side Eliza Sheehan impressed with her defensive work and ability to create a great link on the counter attacks.

This Sunday there are no local soccer fixtures scheduled due to the long weekend.
