A disastrous final 10 minutes proved costly for CMI Busselton City on Sunday in their 2-1 loss to Dalyellup. In a match characterised by only occasional patches of good soccer, it was the local side that scored first through midfielder Mathis Weiler after some clever work from winger Will Jackson. Midway through the second spell Busselton’s Martin Ryan had a chance to double the lead when he hit the post from close range. But it was Dalyellup who finished the stronger when a Mat Evans free kick was scrambled home to even the scores. Then Busselton keeper Jesse Gunnis suffered a hip injury before opposition striker Tez Mukuka grabbed the winner in the last minute with a well-placed shot.
Busselton Reserves showed considerable resilience to share the honours in a 2-2 draw with Dalyellup. Busselton found itself two nil down after 20 minutes mainly due to tendency to give away possession whilst under little or no pressure. But they did grab an opportunist goal through Jasper Grono just prior to the half time break. In the second half veteran Andy Cowley and Patrick Sheehan both coming close to scoring before Koby Mayers equalised when he scored directly from a corner.
Triple M Busselton City ladies side continued their good pre-season form with a convincing 3-0 win over a very competitive Margaret River team. Busselton scored after 23 minutes through a well stuck shot by player-coach Therese Charlton. With Tui Clarke and Hannah Armstrong being at their creative best, two further goals came later in the game courtesy of strikers Chenaye Wright and Ashleigh Charlton. Newcomer Malin McAlister fitted in at right back and combined well with central defender Sami Ryan. A great following by supporters kept the ladies going throughout the game.
The Woody Nook Masters team had a 1-1 draw with derby rivals Geographe Bay. With a new look side, Busselton had chances in the first half to take the lead in a score-less first half. However it was Geographe that scored first before a looping shot from Romain Bouthier equalised late in the game. Goalkeeper Marc Jones and Paul Satterwaite up front both returned sterling efforts in a match that was played in great spirit by both sides.
